However, the main part of Taitung is small and compact enough to make walking a pleasant way to explore the city. To get to the center from the train station, you can take a taxi, but it's much cheaper to take a bus. When you leave the station, turn right and follow the little rain shelter all the way to the end, buses to the city will have a sign that says 台東市區 and only cost $25 NT. Taipei is a very well-connected city and you will likely find yourself making use of public transit during your stay.

While it might seem like just another rest stop along Highway 11, its incredible coastal views set it apart from others. Adjacent to the Twilight Market, you can’t miss the interesting building filled with shipping containers covered by a huge wave-shaped roof. It houses a myriad of cool cafes, eateries, cocktail bars, and artsy stores.
